GP West Fund

Feline research

Our GP West Fund exists thanks to a legacy left by the author of Black’s Veterinary Dictionary, Geoffrey Philip West, who requested that his gift be used to fund feline research.

In 2017 we awarded grants to two feline research projects, Risk factors associated with feline pruritus unrelated to ectoparasites and Using modern genomics to better understand the causes of gastrointestinal and respiratory disease in cats.

Previously the legacy has funded research projects such as an investigation by the Feline Advisory Bureau (now International Cat Care) into pain management in cats and the efficacy of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

You can find out more about these projects on our Grants Awarded page.
